Valuation studies estimate the economic worth of ecosystem functions to demonstrate the absolute dependence of capital markets on ecological stability. Loss of ecosystem services produces cascading systemic consequences. Declining soil fertility destroys food production.
Reduced pollination eliminates crop yield. Wetland degradation exponentially increases flood exposure. Diagnostic evaluation examines whether land use decisions maintain the ecological functions delivering essential services for economic systems.
